KRFC U12'S V Towcester
A Great Test
This morning we faced our toughest option to date this season. From our previous encounters we knew this was going to be a hard fought morning.
We split into two teams & with the Juniors not at home this morning we had the luxury of two pitches. Towcester were well drilled with set pieces & freakishly large children. We started sluggishly and Towsester made us pay.
At the end of the first session we talked to the team about what they could improve on. They all said they needed to tackle more & play more as a team. It's important that they understand how they play & they work out how to improve. It's the easiest thing in the world to stand on the side line & criticise. When you're on the pitch in a game situation facing a well drilled team it's not so easy. We are asking 11 & 12 year olds to make split second decisions in a complex game situation.
The boys never let their heads drop and as the morning went on we made great improvements. One of the teams got a few tries back & really put Towester under pressure. Towcester became frustrated & our boys had the upper hand through to the end. I would say we were happier with our performance than they were with theirs. Our other team had perhaps a tougher morning but it's much better to face an opposition like Towcester than to have too easy a game. I suspect the boys will have learned as much today as all of our other fixtures put together this season. As i said they never let their heads drop, we should all be immensely proud of our players today, they gave it their all, never gave up improved through to the end.
On to kitchen duty. Our biggest issue was getting a full team out. We relied on our experienced members to shore up the griddle & drink making. It was great to see some new team members getting in on the action. I was told the burgers were amazing. My coffee was hot & served very quickly. I couldn't fault the commitment. Rob C & Simon our OCD cleaners were their at the end making sure it was a clean sweep. Great team work, we are all proud of you!
