S&L 'Try' Festival 4/3/2012
Kettering under 12's were late replacements for south leics in this tri tournament, so it was a relief to see a very strong squad of 16 ready to take the field.
Kettering’s first match was against a Wellingborough side already given a tough game by the home side but the blues were not in any mood to be sympathetic with early tries from Sam and Ben respectfully. Kettering’s forwards completely dominated the first half smashing through Wellingborough's pack time and again and securing a third try from Luke before the break.
In the second half Kettering stepped up another gear with two tries for Jan using his two great assets his height and strength to force himself over from line outs .Try of the game came from Arthur who grounded a perfectly weighted chip through from Alfie. The match was rounded off with a much deserved try from Tom who had given his apposing scrum half a torrid time all match.
The tournament decider was between Kettering and S&L. Kettering started the stronger making good ground without being able to convert possession in to tries .Special mention should go to the backs as the wet conditions prevented any service to the back line but they stayed focused and snubbed out the few attacks S&L put together .The deadlock was broken by Jan ,revel ling in the conditions with another great solo try .Blues doubled their lead shortly after with the pack forcing the ball over the try line after a 15 yard drive with Ben taking the credit for the finish.
The home side rallied in the second half but Kettering made every tackle count and did not look in any danger of conceding .Blues came close to a third twice with George going close but forced in to touch and Alfie being penalised for a double movement.
Kettering held on to win the tournament and after last week’s destruction of Milton Keynes rightly credited to a great display by the backs it was the turn of the pack to do the damage this week.
