S & L V Kettering U13’s
Local derby day
The beginning of half term spelled a depleted team, just the 17 involved in the local derby today. A great number for the coaches to work with which meant maximum game time for the boys. Two half’s this week and here’s how it played out.
First break in play results in a scrum to S & L, Kettering win the ball Archie out to Ben, Ben out to Christian, Christian out to Oran who goes around the back to score. A good team try. S & L on the attack down the wing now. Rory with a disruptive tackle dislodges the ball and pick up by Ben and out to Christian who runs it in for a try. S & L on the break again now, they break through the line and it’s an S & L try. Kettering kick off and recover the ball, out to Rory and then back in to Ben, chip over the top with Fraser chasing. Good pressure from Kettering. S & L with the ball but Kettering turn it over, Ben out to Oran on the wing who scores. Freddie on for Ben with an immediate impact. Freddie on the ball and goes through four defenders. Freddie put into touch but we turn S& L over on the restart and ball out to Rory on the wing who scores. Rory gets the ball from the restart and he tears down the wing again to score. S & L keeping their heads up and they are charging down the wing, tackle by Sam with assist by Christian, good defensive work by the blues. S & L with a scrum on our 22, Kettering win against the head and ship it out to Rory but he gets taken into touch on the 5m. More pressure from the blues and the forwards dominate the ruck, ball out to Freddie who sidesteps three players, pass out to Rory who runs it over for the try. Great hands and superb team work, some very un selfish play out there today. S & L on the attack again, some great tackles by the Kettering, Ben folds the S & L front row player in half, ball out the back to Freddie, great feet and side step, lovely weighted pass to Oran who runs it in for a score.
S & L have come out all guns blazing and it’s looking like a good fight back from them. Kettering applying pressure in the S & L half, ball going through the hands well and out to Fraser. Fraser can’t make a clean offload but Rory comes in a cleans up from the floor, sidesteps two players, out to Freddie who’s in for the try. S & L kick off and get it out to their big forward who steams through for the try. Great reply from the home team. S & L starting to dominate now, great work from them. Oran sprinting across the pitch to make a superb tackle, Kettering being made to work hard now. S & L scrum near our try line, they win the scrum and their number nine is over for a try. Kettering win a penalty 15m out and it’s out to Freddie who goes over for the try. Plenty of forwards play now and it’s back and forth between the teams, Toby gets the ball out to Freddie and then Christian who throws a lovely long pass out to Leo who goes over for the try. Penalty to Kettering, ball through plenty of hands and out to Fraser who’s over for the try. Some great forwards play and Sam’s just short of the line, out to Christian but it’s a knock on and S & L scrum, Kettering win against the head, good work from the pack, ball out to Rory and it’s superb footwork through the middle to score. S & L applying lots of pressure and Kettering give away a penalty in their own half. Kettering regain the ball and Fraser runs 3/4 of the pitch to score and that’s time here at that’s time here at Occupation Road.
A superb team effort today, good hands some unselfish play resulting in some great rugby. The forwards have been training hard and it showed today, good to see everyone involved a making a difference. It’s also good to see S & L’s playing numbers increasing which can only be good for them.
