Blues see of ON's in style
Kettering enjoyed a rare, comfortable, win over ON's, as a 5 try first half blitz ended the game as a contest.
The Blues took an early lead when Harry Owens intercepted and ran in untouched from 40 metres, after a bright start by the visitors.
This triggered a purple patch for the home side and after the play was spread wide Paul Sumner skillfully rounded the defence for tries number two and three, and with Bruce Keir landing two conversions, the Blues led 19-0.
Kettering secured their try bonus point with just under 30 minutes played when Dan Martin finished a lineout drive and then crashed over for his second try of the game after the visitors were stretched yet again, as the pace of the Blues game proved too much for ONs. With Keir converting both of these scores, and half-time approaching the Blues led 33-0.
Fernley Simmonds was always a threat with ball in hand and on the stroke of half-time he broke through and the ball eventually found Hammersley who charged through from 15 metres. Billy North converted, to leave the score 33-7 at the imterval.
ON's regrouped at halftime, and dominated the early exchanges, but the Blues defence held firm and once they had weathered the early storm, Alex Bayley finished off an attack which had seen the Blues re-cycle through many phases of play.
Keir added the extras then kicked a penalty, before Damian Conyard rounded off the scoring with an unconverted try in the left corner.to give the Blues a comprehensive 48-7 win.
