After 8 seasons working with the Senior Squad at Kettering RFC, Aldam Mills has decided it is time to move on to pastures new.
Aldam came to the club as assistant backs coach, and over the years worked his way up to the point where he took over from Doug Bridgeman as Head Coach, when Bridgeman moved to Director of Rugby.
Over the past 8 years he helped develop a significant number of players, and played a big part in maintaining the clubs philosophy of playing expansive, exciting and entertaining rugby, whilst still looking to achieve success at level 6, Midlands 1 East.
During this period the side has won the East Midlands Cup and in 2016-17 came so close to gaining promotion to National League 3 Midlands for the first time in over a decade, falling short in the play-off game against Bournville RFC from Midlands 1 West.
Last season, 2017-2018, again saw the side competing at the very top of the league, with a commendable 3rd place finish, which still saw the side playing a fine brand of rugby, which was generally a pleasure to behold.
At the same time, Aldam has also worked with England Deaf, as Backs Coach, and also coached the Backs in the Midlands U18's squad. Despite this and increasing work commitments and a move which took him away from the area, he still found time to help coach our U11's during last season.
There are many at the club, players, coaches and supporters who consider Aldam a personal friend, which is one of the worst things about his departure, and there can be no doubt he will be truly missed at the club. Particularly by the author of this article.
We wish Aldam all the very best for the future, thank him for his significant contribution over the years, and look forward to seeing him as a welcome visitor to our club, anytime he is chooses.
